My aesthetic interests have always seemed to involve the contrasts of geometry
and organic forms. Views from space, maps, shells, water and wind patterns, grids
and modular designs using petals and leaves, bilateral designs of nature, feathers
and crystals: these have been my subjects. Maps combine geometry and the earth.
I love complexity found in nature or created by man. I often use materials associated with women: threads,
buttons, pins, handkerchiefs or beads. I favor older things
that carry a sense of the past- ephemeral things like yesterday’s
newspapers or snapshots. I use mixed media, photography,
typography, paint and found objects to construct pieces in
which hopefully have the mesmerizing qualities of variation
and repetition in color, line, and form.
In my 9/11 Firemen tribute “The Constellations” and
in “The Human Cost” my anti-Iraq war piece, those
variations are the faces of the Lost.
I like subtle changes and variations. I am increasingly using my
photography in "cinematic" collages of nature and fiqures.
Ultimately making my artwork is a kind of meditation for
me and I hope becomes a meditation of sorts for those who
view it.
